Earlier this year I had been reading Mark Januszewski’s book Standing Tall.
I was reciting those Verities on a daily basis. I was actually growing.
The reason I started reading it is that something compelled me to do so. I was PULLED towards it.
After several weeks, I could see a change in the way people were interacting with me: Neighbors, baristas, perfect strangers on the street.
They were smiling at me…interacting with me…and afterwards I felt full — grateful. I told my mentor that it was because I was living in a really great neighborhood. He replied, “No, Khush. It’s not your environment. It’s you.”
Then I began MKE.
All these assignments…!
All this homework…!
And I shut down.
I’ve been coasting through this program.
And then Mark came up with the brilliant 300-Card Exercise, where we write down one thing we’re proud of on each card. Something I could be inspired to do!
And even though it took me a week thereafter to get going with the exercise, I remembered something about myself…
I prefer being PULLED towards achieving something than to be PUSHED to get it done.
This exercise reminds me of why I continue to invest in myself and my growth: I’m excited to meet the future me.
And I’m looking forward to looking back at all the things I’ve accomplished and achieved in my life that I don’t give myself enough credit for.
Let’s roll!
Keep looking forward and not back. Your dreams are up ahead
