“I must have the night to appreciate the day….” Og Mandino, the Scroll Marked III.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned…..” Isaiah 9;2
This week Jake and I had the opportunity to apply these quotes/lessons as we had the experience of Jake’s phone, credit cards, and ID stolen on Wednesday night at a sports bar and restaurant where we were enjoying dinner and pool with my daughters.
Jake had Og’s GS book in his coat pocket, which he thought was his phone, as we left the restaurant and left the phone behind. When we returned to gather the phone it was gone, and not turned in to any of the staff…..ironic isn’t it? Time to “MKE” this whole situation. (A catch phrase Jake and I use during challenging moments to remind ourselves to practice the law of dual thought and keep a PMA as best we can.)
So during this already busy week of doing last-minute preparations for the holidays, we buckled down and focused on the above quotes and our gratitude flash cards. We still have so much to be grateful for…..
We are grateful that the only thing lost were material things that can be replaced…..no one was hurt in our travels. Things can be replaced, people can’t.
We are grateful for the support of Jake’s new employer, who understood when he took a personal day off to replace bank cards, etc, and catch up on sleep after being up for 24 hours.
We are grateful for Jake’s work phone which allows him to keep in touch with family while his personal phone is being replaced.
We are grateful for the peace and quiet that came from one less phone buzzing with notifications and distractions.
We are grateful that no credit cards were used before blocking them.
We are grateful for all the laughs we had that evening at the pub. We really did have a blast!
We are grateful to witness my daughters’ excitement build as they can’t wait to give the presents they got for their loved ones. (LOVE seeing their joy of GIVING gifts exceed their joy of receiving.)
We are grateful for our DECISION to focus on the blessings of this joyous time of year.
We have our health.
We have our home.
We have our love.
Hence, we already having everything….
“Look for God in all situations. Turn disappointments into divine appointments”.- John Maxwell That is what you have done.
Deciding how to respond is powerful! You took what could have been days of anger and bitterness and cut it off before it could begin! Bravo!
Wow Stefanie, way to go turning a potentially negative event around by seeing the good and maintaining your positive mental attitude! I love it!
It’s great that the both of you MKE together in times when issues arise and still being grateful for what you have.
The light is shining. Thank you.
Wow, Stefanie, that is definitely a major unexpected and unwanted inconvenience and life complication. Great exercise in attitude and gratitude in dealing with it!
Definitely an event to test your metal, and you and Jake came out “whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious, and happy!” 🙂
Stefanie – inspiring Blog. “Time to ‘MKE’ this whole situation”. Love it! Congrats on applying the Law of Dual Thought and Law of Substitution to choose the meaning of the experience. Cheering you both on!
P.S. And what a great example for your daughters. =)
