MKE Week 14 – October Sky Movie: Persistence Personified

Exciting memories of past adventures filled my senses this week as I read posts from the new class of 2023. Nicki and I fell in love with the principles, the values and the energy that radiated from Mark and Davene, their staff, guides and members every day of the course...

We didn’t want our adventure to end and realized if we became lifetime members – we could continue the journey. Turns out it was a smart decision on our part. We attended the MKE live events in the summer of 2016 and again in 2017 to keep the transformation alive and met many new friends from around the world. What an exhilarating experience!

My MKE musings from Week 14 in 2015…

Well then… Persistence rules!   Mandino says it all in one breath eh? My feelings exactly – you nailed it, OG!  No sheep on this adventure!

If you missed your special gift in my post last week… you can still find it here >> The Strangest Secret

Headin’ into the New Year and 14 weeks of the MKMMA Experience now behind me. Wow, too fast!

Going boldly forward in 2016 into the unknown frontier where few men (or women) have been – back to the future to set a new course in the fields of uncertainty – where all opportunity and wisdom lie. And create a new flight plan to meet our future self… or a new blueprint as I’ve been sayin’.

Hey – what else can I say?  It’s uncharted territory the majority of folks
will never explore. Unless they join us in September for
the next Master Key Experience.

This week has been tremendous fun to visit other blogs and read about their experiences.  I found the holiday season a bit disruptive for my routine, but managed to keep an even keel and not get swamped with all the variables.

Stoked by the growth I’ve experienced!

Movies to Validate Persistence

One of the homework projects included watching at least one of these movies which portray a hero’s journey.  The key was to observe the elements which portray those tiny habits of persistence – which once mastered lead you to massive success automatically.

Nicki and I actually watched 5 out of the 6 movies this week and were amazed at how quickly we resonated the actor’s persistence in their DMP, POA, PMA and MMA following their passions.

I can hear you saying, “What da heck is he talking about.”

Fair enough, ‘cuz if you’re not in the MKMMA with us, you probably have no idea what the letters mean. So here’s a quick spin so you can understand the review.

DMP – Definite Main Purpose

Napoleon Hill introduced the concept of a major definite purpose in his classic Think and Grow Rich. Your definite main purpose represents the main or central mission of your life at this moment. Your life’s work. It attempts to answer the questions “why am I here?” and “what am I going to do with the rest of my life?”

Your definite main purpose is determined a burning desire of what you want your life to look like . No one can choose your desire for you. Once clarified – it becomes your definite chief aim and the primary focus of your mind –  until it becomes your new reality.

Unless, of course,  you allow conflicting desires to stifle it.

PMA – Postitive Mental Attitude

Positive mental attitude is the philosophy of employing an optimistic disposition in all situations to attract positive changes and
accelerate achievement.

In the 1937 classic, Think and Grow Rich, Hill outlines the importance of positive thinking. However, he didn’t coin the phrase Positive Mental Attitude until he co-authored Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude, with W. Clement Stone.

They described it as:

“The ‘plus’ characteristics symbolized by such words as faith, integrity, hope, optimism, courage, initiative, generosity, tolerance, tact, kindliness and good common sense.”

When you focus on PMA you automatically uncover and plan ways to win, or find a desirable outcome, regardless of the circumstances. In doing so you eliminate negativity and hopelessness forever and live more harmoniously.

POA – Plan of Action

Take action (however small) towards your definite chief aim every day. This might be as little as writing it down on paper, making a phone call or simply reading an article. Remember the metaphor of the magnifying glass igniting the paper – laser focus.  The compounding effect of small steps taken daily will astound you.

In MKMMA we develop the skill of self-confidence and the habit of persistence by committing to follow the simple process of complex compounded progression to achieve stunning results.  More on that later…

MMA – Master Mind Alliance

Form an alliance for achieving your Definite Chief Aim – with a person or persons who will help you implement your plans to transform your definite chief aim into reality. The purpose of this friendly alliance is to access the power of the law of the “Master Mind”.

No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind.
[the master mind].

NAPOLEON HILL

Your alliance should be with those who have your highest and best interests at heart. ie.  Your spouse, mother, father, brothers or sisters, or close friends or business associates.  Simply defined:

A mastermind alliance involves two or more people who work in perfect harmony for the attainment of a definite purpose.

In your mastermind alliance you:

  • May borrow and use the education, experience, influence, and the capital of other people.
  • Can accomplish in one year more than you could accomplish without it in a lifetime.
  • Can readily tap into the power within to access the universal mind.
  • Protect yourself against failure if your purpose is beneficial to all whom it affects.

The Master Key Master Mind Alliance is blessed with hundreds like minded people and it’s easy to choose any number to form a smaller mastermind within the large group. Imagine the potential when you’ve hundreds available to choose as mastermind partners!

October Sky – A Short Review

This was a fun task to include as “homework” over the holiday season.  Without giving away too much of the story, I’ll give you a short snapshot of how I related to this movie.

In general – I loved the characters portrayed by the actors and was in tune with the emotional tone of the values they communicated throughout the entire movie. Credible characters – well cast roles.

October Sky is based on Homer Hickam’s Rocket Boys, a true memoir.  The real life hero of this story actually does end up working with Astronauts so it’s easy to see the authenticity of the movie story.

Homer (the star) was focused on getting an autographed photo of Werner von Braun which I identified with immediately because Bob Proctor often quotes von Braun in his conversations about the Universal Laws:

The natural laws of the universe are so precise that we have no difficulty building a spaceship to the moon and can time the flight with the precision of a fraction of a second.

Werner von Braun

It’s a great link to the material we are studying with MKMMA.

After viewing Sputnik orbiting the earth, Homer, an avid science fiction reader has a burning desire to become part of the solution for space travel. (DMP).  His first in a series of stumbling blocks is math and science, his weak subjects in school. So, he knows he can’t go this alone and needs set up an alliance with others to leverage their skills. (MMA)

He connects with the geeky outcast class brainiac, Quentin, and recruits him as a partner (MMA) to help him follow his destiny. As the discuss their plan of action (POA) they ask two more lads to join them in their adventure.

The first attempts to launch his rockets end in minor disaster – like blowing a fence down. This get them on the wrong side of his dad and the miners who think Homer should be in the mine and get his head out of the clouds. The dialogue and drama it builds keeps the story moving quickly and adds to the entertainment value immensely.

The boys garner more support (POA) for their project and Homer’s (MMA) expands to insure his eventual success. The inspiration he receives from his teacher is motivational, emotional and well choreographed to add a heart warming touch to the story.

The (PMA) Homer maintains through the story is a picture of strength and his leadership develops throughout the story.

I purposely didn’t detail the total story line because if you haven’t seen this movie, I didn’t want to give away all the goodies in a couple of paragraphs. Well, boys and girls, end of the storytelling for now.

It’s New Year’s eve tonight and I wanted to get this posted.

Make it a fantastic 2016!

’til next time…
– Dennis

PS:  What did you think about John, Homer’s dad, played by Chris Cooper?

  • You’re welcome, Day! I’m grateful every day that I’m able to colaborate with you and the staff to help guide others along the path Mark and Davene have forged on their own Hero’s Journey lighting the way for all of us.

  • What an amazing share, Dennis! Thank you so much, for sharing this, for inviting others to open the gifts offered in this amazing program, and for all you do to support the staff, guides and members. You are deeply appreciated!!

  • Thank you for your comments, Jen! We’re only on this planet a short time so it’s important to enjoy each adventure (and each other) in the present moment. So glad to be able to share some of that time with you! Happy New Year!

  • Dennis, since you said you and Nicki watched 5 of the 6 assigned movies, I felt a bit gypped when you reviewed just one! LOL 🙂

  • Ann-Charlotte – glad to hear you accessed this via twitter – I am in the habit of sharing every single post I comment on with #masterkeyexperience. I’m glad you found Dennis’ post helpful!

  • Wow!!!! Inspiring blog post Dennis. I too am so grateful to be a Lifetime MKE member along with supporting the MKE movement of self directed thinkers, being in Service as part of the Staff….like you said in your bio, I can also relate to being an “ongoing student of the universe! I love the image you created of all the movie posters. Thanks for sharing your creative talents with us!

  • Wow, thank you so very much, Dennis. As I read the instructions for Week 14 I said to myself, “it would be GREAT with a short list of explanations of the acronyms used in the MKE”.

I know exactly what an MMA is. Same with a DMP, I read mine all the time, but often I wonder if it is my “main”, or “major” purpose? POA, no problem, but then I could not remember PMA (even though I have one)… and here, of course, God presents me with exactly what I asked for – from you. And I landed here “randomly” via a tweet by Nancy Ottinger – thanks a lot Nancy!

I just love how The Universe, my beloved Subby, always works to supply the very best. Ask and You shall be given.

And YES, 2023 is already the best and most fantastic year ever!!
