Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”

Jesus in Luke 6:38

Man cannot fully find himself except through a sincere gift of himself.

Pope John Paul II

Your being increases in the measure that you give it away.

The more we give, the more we shall get.

Charles Haanel, Master Key System, Part 4, Paragraph 21

This is my personal understanding of the Law of the Gift:

We give more to receive much more.

However, we cannot give what we do not have. If we are spiritually bankrupt, we cannot give spiritually. If we are mentally bankrupt, we cannot give mentally. If we are physically bankrupt, we cannot give physically. If we are financially bankrupt, we cannot give financially.

We cannot be helpful unless we’re strong.

Charles Haanel, Master Key System Part 4

To have something to give, we must create it. We can only create it through thought. Thought comes from inspiration within. Inspiration comes from a mind that can control itself and is steeped in silent stillness. Therefore, sitting quietly is crucial in creating.

We are instructed to sit to relieve tension and agitation in mind and body.
We sit to expel toxicities within us like

Hatred, anger, worry, jealousy, envy, sorrow, trouble or disappointment of any kind.”

Charles Haanel, Master Key System, Part 4, Paragraph 30

Nature abhors a vacuum. Thus, after emptying all the rubbish, we fill ourselves with the unshakable belief “I can be what I will to be!” through emotional and enthusiastic affirmations.

We also fill ourselves with virtues like faith, hope, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, courage, empathy, understanding, selfless service, perseverance, industriousness, enthusiasm, and many more.

Then, we can become generous, magnanimous souls and give good things from the fullness of our hearts with purity of intention.

We can enrich and transform the world around us beginning within our families. We become magnetic, charismatic, and shining examples of people of character and virtue within our family, in our workplace, and in our community. Our circle of influence gets bigger and bigger, and we can do much good for more people in a selfless way. We become what we will to be!

Wisdom and creation come from contemplation and thought in serenity but not from running around like a headless chicken. Granted our schedules are full, yet we still do everything with a calm and soothing spirit. Although it is challenging, it will get easier and one day we will not be flustered by any challenge or even catastrophe from without because our souls are a peaceful pond within.

I read many stories of powerful people like popes, kings, princes, and queens go deep into the wilderness or climb high and remote mountains to seek sage advice to solve their unsolvable problems from contemplative monks or nuns. Why? Because the nuns and monks sit and contemplate and they receive wisdom and understanding from the source of all wisdom and understanding, God.

The value and power come from silence. How can we listen and learn anything if we keep speaking.

We should, therefore, seek the Silence frequently. Power comes through repose; it is in the Silence that we can be still, and when we are still, we can think, and thought is the secret of all attainment.”

Charles Haanel, Master Key System, Part 4, Paragraph 26

Mark J said that some of the most successful people spend 30 minutes, even an hour or two just to sit still daily. I didn’t know why then. Now, I understand why.
Take the time to chill so we give the world our warmth!

  • I enjoyed this very much.Thank you for sharing…we cannot give what we do not have. we cannot pour anything from an empty vessel.

  • Wow, Tuan… Thank you so much for your post — perfectly, exactly what I needed today. So happy for you and for all of us who received your wisdom in this post.

  • I love your understanding of the law of the gift and our value of silence.

We have the power within us and all around us; listen and be aware the answer is within us and all around us.

  • Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Tuan. Somedays it seems like everyone in the world talks too much……..just need to listen first to the voice within.

  • What a great post, Tuan! This week’s teaching on the power of silence, stillness, and “I” has been my favorite thus far.

  • Yes, Janet. The acres of diamonds in our own possession that we need to reclaim. Thank you very much!

  • Thank you Tuan. We are but have just lost touch with our gold. The sits let us hear the voice from within that has been trying to get through the cement. Listen in the silence.

  • The power of the silence is where it’s at, Tuan. To my way of thinking, a perfect topic for your fourth blog post! 🙂
