Usually, we wouldn’t think of a question or a phrase as a tool, instead we would think of a sander, a hammer or maybe a knife. In the realm of mental creation and personal work, however there are many tools we can use that are as powerful, once recognized and applied. My favorite mind tool is one of these.
What would the person I intend to become do next?
This one question is one of the favorite tools I’ve learned from the Master Key Experience. This question helps me to separate my actions from my emotions. I am an educated observer and asking myself this question helps me make sure my Plan of Action and my Goals stay aligned.
We can use this question when assessing our next steps with anything. This week, I used it several times when I didn’t “feel” like working out. Instead of thinking about “wanting to or feeling like” working out, I said, would the healthy, strong, fit Ann go work out or skip today? Duh, of course I would work out, so I did. I am fascinated by how unattached emotionally I become to the decision.
Today, I used this question when thinking about writing this week’s blog post which is due by Friday. Would the future Ann who believes in the MKE strategies and is successful put off writing her blog entry or would she just “DO IT NOW?” Duh, the action no longer becomes a choice, it becomes an action that I complete. It’s AMAZING!
When we ask this question, we imagine the future version of ourselves, the one who has achieved our goals and has transformed into the person we were meant to become. It is by using our imagination, our future self has an opportunity to influence our current self and ensure our actions are aligned with our goals. I am SO EXCITED to apply this question regularly and to teach others to do the same.
Thank you for re-minding me.
It’s a question that sits atop each one of my piles of gratitude cards, Ann: so I know it well! Awesome to hear how you’re making use of it! 🙂
I use this tool often also and I’ve found it really helps in decision making just like it has for you.
That’s awesome, Ann – you ‘did it now’ and got great results! Good for you!
Oh shoot Jen I wrote kinda the same thing BEFORE i saw yours – again #greatmindthinkalike #weareallconnected lol
Simple as that! Now that is knowledge applying itself – Congrats and also I find this encouraging so mahalo for that Ann! 🙂
Love this Ann! I can just see and feel your future self on the other side of that glass cheering you on to making her manifest sooner and sooner. Inspiring!
Inspiring blog Ann!! Way to apply the knowledge….I too enjoy using this tool, this question “What would the person I intend to become do next?” to help clarify my next step and provide a friendly boost if I’m not exactly “feeling” like doing something. Thank you for sharing with us and leading be example in the Harmony tribe Marco Polo.
